Guest haiku re: Tim Lincecum

A great haiku from a friend has softened the blow of the Phillies'
loss. Enjoy it.

Lincecum sans hat
Looks disturbingly like the
Old Pee-Wee mug shot.

Giants win Game 6, 3-2, win series, 4-2

Jose Uribe?
Howard doesn't swing at end?
The better team won.

One. Day. More.

The Phils are alive

To fight again tomorrow.

It's playoff baseball.

Phils win, 4-2, force Game 6

Roy gutted it out,
The bullpen held a slim lead
Heart attack city.

Game 6 Saturday
Wizard of Oz to pitch in
Philadelphia

Giants win Game 4, 6-5, lead series, 3-1

In the eighth inning,
Rollins should have laid a bunt.
This was a tough one.

Blanton threw only
Sixty-three pitches, but left
With the Phils ahead.

Thirteen outs from 'pen?
That's too much to ask from it
Phils have big challenge.

Giants win Game 3, 3-0

That was pretty nauseating. Does anyone on the Philadelphia nine want to hit?

Ground out to second,
A bunch of strikeouts and then
Ground out to second.

Ibanez looks lost
Should Ben Francisco start on
Wednesday? I think so.

Teasing the Giants

The nickname "Giants"
Is quite appropriate for
Pablo Sandoval

Don't you just want to
Wipe the "I'm so special" smirk
Off of Ross's face?

Please let me know if
You've seen Buster Posey's bat.
It has gone missing.

Pat "the Bat" Burrell
Used to be able to play
The full nine innings

Phils win Game 2, 6-1, series tied 1-1

Good night for the Phillies. They got a big hit from Rollins, and Oswalt shut down the Giants' bats, except for Cody Ross's. Speaking of Ross: I don't really like the cut of his jib. Very cocky for a dude who, according to the newspapers, grew up wanting to be a rodeo clown. Read that last sentence again. A rodeo clown.

Oswalt pitched a gem
Rollins took off the collar
And the ballpark rocked.

Cody Ross hit it
And then did this cocky hop
And now I hate him.

The next time that Ross
Does his cocky hop, the Phils
Should throw at his ear.

Giants win Game 1, 4-3

Not a great night. Too many Ks from the offense, and Raul Ibanez
making love to the wall in the 6th instead of catching the ball.
Also, Giants a bit cocky for my taste.

Rollins is a mess.
Howard looks like Scott Rolen
With all the strikeouts.

Trouble with Sanchez
Pitching tomorrow. Could Phils
Be down two games soon?

NLCS prediction -- Phillies in 4

In games that they were actually trying to win, the Phillies have only lost three times since Labor Day.  All three losses were to the Mets.  They are also 27-5 against teams with a .500 or better record since Roy Oswalt arrived.  I have seen nothing that suggests that this team is going to lose one game (let alone four) to a National League team.  Phillies in 4.

Please use the comments to add your predictions.

Phils are on a roll
San Francisco cannot hit
Phils will win in four

Here come the Giants

I am pretty sure
That I'll hate Buster Posey
By this time next week

Phils sweep Reds, earn extra haikus

The Reds just ran into a buzzsaw, the the Phillies are moving on. I have no doubt that the Phils are going to sweep through the rest of the NL playoffs. Today, I present a series of haikus, in honor of the Phils' latest series triumph.

Promises to keep,
Miles to go before they sleep,
Phils start with a sweep.

Do you think Dusty
Baker wishes that he left
Cabrera on bench?

Cole Hamels has found
His mojo again. Last year
Is long time ago.

Scott Rolen will change
His middle initial to
Either "K" or "E".

Thanks for playing, Reds.
You helped keep us in shape for
The NLCS.

Winning ugly

The seventh inning
Taught me that "Aroldis" is
Spanish for "Broxton"

The Wizard of Oz

Tonight, Roy Oswalt takes the mound to try to give the Phillies a stranglehold on the NLDS. How do you think the last 40 hours have been for the Reds? They've been sitting around Philadelphia hearing all the reactions to Halladay's no-hitter, knowing that they have to come out tonight to face a pitcher who has been pitching better than Halladay over the last month! I've been daydreaming about what it would be like if Oswalt dropped another no-hitter on the Reds.

Oswalt takes the mound:
How 'bout another no-no
To keep things going?

History

No runs and no hits
It's too bad about that walk.
Roy made history!

Pre-game injury report haiku

It has just been announced that 3B Placido Polanco will not start for the Phillies because of a heretofore-unmentioned back problem.  Wilson Valdez is in the game instead.  Sounds like a good occasion for a haiku.

Polly's back is weak.
Valdez will replace him.  I'm
A bit nervous now.

Life in the habit

It has been eight days since the Phillies clinched the division title in Washington, eight days without a meaningful Phillies game to look forward to in the evening.  I am in serious withdrawal.

The Phillies habit
I have tried to break it, but
I'm hopelessly hooked.

Ode to Roy #1

He has the Cy Young
and a serious game face
He is Halladay

2010 -- The more things change...

Well, it's another October, which means the Fightin' Phils are back for another playoff run. Thanks to all of my readers for the encouragement to start the haikus flowing again. I have no doubt that the Phils will roll through the National League playoffs. Halladay, Hamels and Oswalt (pronounced "OEWZ-walt" anywhere south of Washington Avenue in Philadelphia) will lead the charge. Our winning formula is H2O (pronounced "Aitch-Tew-Oew").

The two Roys and Cole
Two parts H and one part O
Will take the Phils far.
